Video Critique of Your Images

When I attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara my favorite day was critique day. Why? Because I got to see through the eyes of an experienced professional. I learned not just by having my work critiqued but seeing my fellow classmates images critiqued as well.

Personalized critiques can greatly accelerate your growth as a photographer no matter your level of expertise.

How It Works

We have a panel of three award-winning, professional photographers to provide your critiques. You will start by filling out our questionnaire about specific areas you are most interested in. (Form will pop up at check out.)

For example:

  • You may be considering some images for a local photo competition and want hints on how to make them as effective, and dynamic as possible.

  • You might be frustrated technically with exposure, lighting, focus, etc., and want help solving those problems.

  • You might want an artistic opinion as to how to make an image work the best — comments on composition, cropping, lighting, etc.

With your images on screen, we will address your areas of concern and will record our commentary — illustrating the good elements and highlighting anything that might need improving. We will be using the editing software Lightroom, which is excellent for demonstrating changes as they occur. On occasion, we will insert our own images, as examples, to illustrate a certain point. We always conclude a critique with an inspirational image, discussing all the powerful elements in it.

Process

After reviewing your questionnaire, one of our panel will be assigned your critique and will communicate with you by email.

You will be asked to select up to 10 images for the critique and send them to the address provided. Address and image transfer instructions will be included in our communication.

We’ll review your images, respond to concerns listed on your questionnaire, and will send you a personalized video critique of your work.

On average, critique videos run from 20–30 minutes in length.

You may purchase additional consultation time on a $75 / half hour basis. This you will arrange directly with your assigned mentor.
